Best Western/ Rodeo books
Location
What sre some of the best Western or Rodeos books? Some of my favorite ones are the books from The Rodeo Riders series: Cowboy Up, Rigged To a Ride, Final Ride, The Natural, and Rodeo Riders. There is also all of the Louis L'Amor books along with the Zan Grey books. What are some other great Western/Rodeo books?

There is definitely so many great books to choose from. I am definitely a big fan of it. You cannot go wrong with them at all. Pro-Bel Canada

but Zane Grey was the original master.
wish he had been as prolific as some of the others.

Grey became one of the first millionaire authors. With veracity and emotional intensity, he connected with his millions of readers worldwide, during peacetime and war, and inspired many Western writers who followed him. Zane Grey was a major force in shaping the myths of the Old West and he helped transition the written Western into other media. He was the author of over 90 books, some published posthumously and/or based on serials originally published in magazines. His total book sales exceed 40 million.[53]
He not only wrote Westerns, but he also authored two hunting books, six children’s books, two baseball books, and eight fishing books.[54] Many of them became bestsellers. It is estimated that he wrote over nine million words in his career.[55] From 1917–1926, Grey was in the top ten best-seller list nine times, which required sales of over 100,000 copies each time.[56] Even after his death, Harper had a stockpile of manuscripts and continued to publish a new title each year until 1963.[57] During the 1940’s and afterwards, paperback sales of Grey’s books exploded.
I lawys felt both Grey and L'Amour were "romanticist" more than western writers.
I like the more gritty writers like Elmore Leonard (3:10 to Yuma, Hombre, etc) and humorus like Kelton (The Good Old Boys) and Mike Blakely (The Shortgrass Song).
But there are so many it is impossible to name just one.
Louis L'Amour is the guy for me. Pretty detailed in the story, no gory stuff.
The only rodeo book, if you wanna call it that, that I read is Gold Buckle Dreams about Chris LeDoux, you get hooked on that one from the very beginning I tell you.
I don't like most stories out there, they paint a very distorted picture of the entire western thing, least that's what I think.

I do agree that Gold Buckle Dreams is a great book. I've read it several times and actually met Chris just before he passed. I grew up in Wyoming and was pretty much raised listenin to his music and I abselutly have to agree that Gold Buckle Dreams is a very good book (especially when you do a report for you music class on Chris).

Here are several books I've really enjoyed:
Gold Buckle Dreams: The Rodeo Life Story of Chris Ledoux by David G. Brown, On Down The Road - The World of the Rodeo Cowboy by Bob St. John, Twenty Extraordinary Athletes of America’s Sport by Gavin Ehringer (anything Gavin does about rodeo is a worthwhile read).

I could not agree more with Kacey Jean on some good reading. However, I read Jeanne Joy's post and will have to pick up one of her three books. Two subjects close to my heart she has written about, Dogs and Rodeo....The new book about the Bull Fighters looks very interesting as anyone who ever has been to the Rodeo or rode bulls would understand the most important person between you and the bull is that Rodeo Clown. While his role is sincerely entertainment, he is also the one to risk everything to keep you safe whether you have a successful ride or thrown. Can't wait to read "GREASEPAINT MATADORS" the unsung hero's of Rodeo.
