Margaret “Maggi” Elizabeth Lindley, widow of rodeo clown, contestant, and movie actor Slim Pickens, passed away March 21, 2011 in Sonora, California, five days shy of her 90th birthday. She incurred a broken hip in December and never recovered from it. Maggi, a native Californian, was born March 26, 1921. She met Slim at the Madera County Fair while she was galloping a horse on the race track. The funnyman stepped out on the track, and in trying to avoid hitting him, she almost had a wreck. Maggi was quite angry with him for that antic, but in time she obviously changed her mind. They were married on March 22, a long time ago, and lived a long happy life until Slim died of cancer, December 8, 1983. Their final home was in Columbia, California. She is survived by their three children, Daryle Ann Lindley, of Toluca Lake, CA; Maggi Wittman, Columbia, CA; and Thom Lindley of Edmonds, WA, plus five grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. There will not be a service until summer when all of her family can be present and ‘there will be blue skies and sunny days’. Memorials can be sent in her name to: Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary, c/o Dayton ‘Hawk’ Hyde, P O Box 998, Hot Springs, SD 57747.
